Book sales, author talks, and community gatherings.

Here is what the Friends run each year, in the seasons they normally fall. Exact dates for the current calendar are confirmed a few weeks ahead and announced first to members and newsletter subscribers.

• Each spring · April–May

  Spring Book Sale

  Bryant Library, Main Reading Room

  Our signature fundraiser and the single largest source of program funding each year. Volunteers spend the preceding months sorting thousands of donated hardcovers, paperbacks, children's titles, cookbooks, DVDs, and puzzles into browsable categories. Members are admitted an hour before the doors open to the public, and the final day is a bag sale where shoppers fill a tote for a few dollars. Everything unsold is donated onward to schools, veterans' groups, and literacy charities rather than discarded — and every dollar raised goes back into books, museum passes, and programming at the Bryant Library.

  Author Talk Series

  Bryant Library Community Room

  Free evening conversations with novelists, historians, journalists, and local writers, hosted in partnership with library staff. Each session runs about an hour: a short reading, a moderated conversation, audience questions, and a signing. The Friends cover speaker honoraria, travel, and refreshments so that admission stays free and no resident is priced out of an evening with a working author. Seating is first-come; no registration is required.

• Every fall · October

  Annual Membership Meeting

  Bryant Library

  Our yearly business meeting, open to the public and voting-eligible for current members. The treasurer presents a full accounting of the prior fiscal year — revenue by source, grants made to the library, and operating costs — and the board outlines proposed funding priorities for the year ahead. Members elect officers, vote on the budget, and can raise items from the floor. It is the most direct way to see exactly how your dues and donations were spent.

  Volunteer Sorting Days

  Bryant Library

  Donations arrive at the library all year, and a small crew meets regularly to unbox, sort, price, and shelve them ahead of the next sale. Shifts are typically two to three hours, no prior experience is needed, and training takes about ten minutes. It is friendly, low-pressure work that suits students earning service hours, retirees, and anyone who likes being around books.
